Best of My Motorsport Photography for 2016
Well what a year that was! I somehow managed to fit in even more racing into 2016, totalling 30 motorsport events throughout the year.
2016 has been a year where I’ve managed to achieve quite a lot in my motorsport photography. I’ve been very fortunate to photograph everything from the opening round of the Formula 1 Championship in Melbourne to the final round of the World Rally Championship in Coffs Harbour. Between the two I travelled all over Australia and New Zealand to cover every round of the Virgin Australia Supercars, the Shannons Nationals as well as a few other fantastic events for good measure.
Through out the year I took over a quarter of a million photos and was a finalist (top 3) in the best action photo category at the Supercars Media awards. Quite an honour considering some of the best motorsport photographers in Australia didn’t get a mention.
I’ve also had the great privilege to work with so many great customers and media outlets throughout the year, which you’ll no doubt be aware of from following me on social media. As such my business has continued to grow beyond my expectations. To the point where I’m no longer just taking photos, but I’ve expanded my services in motorsport by writing articles for magazines and websites and also producing press releases for a couple of drivers. While outside motorsport I’ve also been building websites and creating short form video content for a variety of customers.
So with that in mind I’ve made the decision publicly rebrand the business to InSyde Media. It won’t be a surprise to my regular customers, it’s something that has been in the works since late last year. However with several schedule conflicts between the Supercars and the CAMS Nationals in 2017, I feel now is the right time to formally rebrand the business. It’s going to allow to utilise some of the best people in the business to fill in when required and make sure my customers receive the service they’ve come to expect during some of the unfortunate scheduling conflicts on the cards for 2017.
Now as a result you may have noticed that I’ve already rebranded some of social media and created new accounts in others. So here’s a comprehensive list of accounts to follow.
- Facebook – InSyde Media/Rhys Vandersyde (account will be rebranded links will remain the same)
- Instagram – InSyde Media (Business)
- Instagram – Rhys Vandersyde (Personal)
- Twitter – InSyde Media (Business)
- Twitter – Rhys Vandersyde (Personal)
Don’t fret, I have every intention to continue this blog as my personal photography page. It’ll still be a place where I can showcase my favourite photos and keep my personal portfolio up to date, I may even include some more travel related content in the future. It’ll just be the business component will move over to the InSyde Media website from 2017.
Now that all that’s out of the way it’s time to move on to my best motorsport photography work during the 2016 season.
Instead of writing lengthy descriptions for each shot (this blog post is already lengthy enough), I thought I’d just share my favourites from throughout the year in a chronological order. If you’d like to know more about a particular shot, feel free to get in touch with me. I’m looking forward to creating more fantastic images in 2017.
That wraps up a massive 2016 for me in Motorsport. If you’d like to discuss my motorsport photography or any of my other services for the upcoming 2017 season, visit InSyde Media or just get in touch.
Catch you all next year.
