It’s not all Motorsport and Automotive Photoshoots around here. Occasionally I get called up to photograph other things. Just like last weekend where I got the call (well, email if we’re going to be specific) to photograph Northern Lakes Warriors competing in the Central Coast Rugby League.
I’m always on the look out to pick up some extra work, especially to fill the gaps between motorsport events than make up the bulk of my business. So when opportunities to cover other sporting events pop up, like this one, I make sure I jump on them and showcase what I can do in other sports.
A good photographer who has a good understanding of the sport can read the game or the event and start to predict where the action is going to be. That’s no different if I’m shooting Cricket, Basketball, Soccer, American Football, Ice Hockey or Rugby League like I was over the weekend.
While I don’t shoot these other sports on a day to day basis. Following a variety of sports and understanding the flow of different games allows me to quickly up to speed to showcase the action and tell the story of the match. Something the best in the business are doing at the moment over in Rio for the Olympics.
Now this wasn’t the first time I’ve covered a Rugby League match. In fact I often photograph my nephew’s matches whenever I’m not working on paid photo gig. Although Under 8’s is a different story to graded Adult match. One day I’ll share some of those photos in a blog post.
In the mean time here’s a small selection of action shots from the Northern Lakes Warriors game in the Central Coast Rugby League. Unfortunately the Northern Lakes didn’t win this match against the Erina Eagles. But I managed to showcase the skills and toughness that made up the game.
That wraps up my favourite photos from Northern Lakes Warriors Central Coast Rugby League match for 2016. I’m always on the look out for new opportunities to photograph sports, particularly over the summer during the motorsports offseason.
